The Comedic Stylings of Anthony Jeselnik

So I’ve definitely overused the phrase “comedy stylings.”  It was in yesterday’s post, I tweeted it, and now it’s a title.  But really, it’s accurate.

Yesterday was a blast!  I’ve always been a fan of funny things, I like to laugh, and like every other college student in 2005-06, I loved me some Dane Cook. But I was never an expert on comedy (and I’m still not).  My friend Staci, however, is, and she introduced me to comedy shows a few months ago when we went to Madison to see Pete Holmes.

Fun fact #1: This is not the picture I saved from that website, but this is what showed up in my iphotos.  Fun fact #2: He’s the E*Trade baby.  Mind blown?

Well, we have a mutual love for Anthony Jeselnik, so when we heard he was coming to Milwaukee, we were fully on board.

A few things about tonight’s show:

1. Jeselnik’s comedy is not for everyone.  It can be considered offensive, but it’s comedy — it’s not serious.  Make sure you remember this before you come to a show.  The woman in front of us was NOT having his jokes.  Every time he made a joke, she shook her head in disgust.  It actually became part of the joke for Staci and I to see her reaction while also laughing.

2.  Make sure you go to a comedy show, especially a show like Jesel’s (yep, I’m calling him that) with someone.  Jesel’s style is very punchline-y without much setup, meaning the jokes come fast.  Because of this, I’ve forgotten half of them already, even though I want to repeat them to everyone I know.  I’m going to have to check with Staci at work today so she can help me remember the greatness that is Jesel.  Don’t go to a show alone and put all that responsibility on yourself.

3.  Finally, I don’t understand why Jesel is funny.  He is a very very good looking man.  There is no reason for him to be funny.  He can just stand there and do nothing and be successful.  But he is funny, which makes him even better.

Great show from this guy!

I highly encourage you to check out one of his shows (after listening to a few of his jokes online to make sure you are up for it), or at least check out a comedy show in general.  I never considered going to a comedy show as a viable option for something to do, but honestly, it is such a good time.  Get a group of friends–with a good sense of humor–together and check out a show.  Definitely worth the price of admission!

Well, off to work for me, followed by packing, then BACK to Indiana for weekend number 3 in a row.  However, this time, I think something big is happening…

Beautiful Lake Run

This morning when my alarm went off at 5:30 a.m., I didn’t even hit snooze.  I turned the alarm off and rolled over, planning on sleeping for another hour.  I was exhausted and didn’t want to run.

But then I remembered that I have plans for tonight and I needed to get a workout in this morning, so I pulled myself out of bed to go for a run.  I’m so glad I did!

Yesterday was a long day in the legal world and a run was exactly what I needed.  I love running in the city in the morning because it’s so peaceful; the only people out are other runners.

I ran down to the lake and it was absolutely gorgeous.  I didn’t run with my camera, so this is the only picture I have (I took this walking Milo a few months ago):

Beautiful Milwaukee

This is the top of the hill, which I ran down to run right along the lake.  It was beyond beautiful along the lake — the boats were in the marina, the skyline was amazing, and I ran by the Art Museum, which of course, made me think of getting to marry my best friend in a little over a year.

I'm getting married here!

This run was exactly what I needed and reminded me why I love running so much.  The only thing that would have made it better would be if I had James with me.

I ended up getting in 5 miles in just under 50 minutes, which was perfectly fine with me.

Such a great way to start the day, I’m so thankful that I live in this beautiful city and have the ability to run through it.

Well, time to get ready for work.  I am going with Staci to see Anthony Jeselnik tonight, so I’m really excited!

I get to enjoy his comedy stylings tonight

Have a wonderful day everyone!!

A Weekend Filled with Family, Sun, and a Wedding

So I definitely took a little vacation day yesterday!  I went to brunch, laid out a bit, got some Dairy Queen, and hung out with the fam.  I had no desire to stop any of those things, so my recap of my friend’s wedding is a little late.

On Saturday, James and I attended the wedding of one of my very favorite people.

Our first wedding as an engaged couple!

Frank was one of my best friends in high school and I’ve definitely not hung out with him/seen him as much in the past few years as I would like, but we’ve still kept in touch, and I was so excited to attend his wedding.

I was also excited because it was finally an opportunity to introduce James to Frank, Frank’s wife, and several of my other great high school friends (Frank and a few others stayed with me in Milwaukee a couple years ago, but James had something school related and didn’t meet them).

The ceremony was outside on a beautiful course.

I tried to capture the beautiful course...and got the guitar player as well

Even though it was rather warm outside (90 degrees), the ceremony was so beautiful and you could feel the love between Frank and his wife, Kara.

After cocktail hour, James and I were seated with some old high school friends and it was great laughing and catching up.

After a bit of dancing and some pics with Frank and my great friend Casey, James and I headed back to my parents’ house because we were pretty tired.

The wonderful groom and I

Two of my best friends from high school

It was such a great time at the wedding and I’ve so glad I got to be a part of Frank and Kara’s special day!

****

Like I said, Sunday was a lazy day.  My parents, sister, James, and I went out for brunch.  I went with a veggie omelet with tons of veggies and feta cheese.  James and I also shared a side of hashbrowns, which I dumped on my eggs.

Yummy brunch

I also stole a few bits of my dad’s pancakes.

These were insanely good

My sister and I also laid out a bit on Sunday.  This whole weekend was so hot!  Poor Milo had a blast playing outside and sitting on my parents’ back porch, but he got so hot that he spent a majority of the weekend laying on the floor to stay cool.

Pooped puppy

So tired!

But he had such a great time playing with his “grandma” and Aunt Susan.

****

Today, after going for a quick 3.25 mile run (it was way too hot to go any farther), I hung out with my family for a bit — mainly talking about Susan’s wedding in less than a week!! — then James and I called it a weekend and made the drive back to Milwaukee.

Milo slept through most of the car ride, but woke up just as we got back to Milwaukee.

Going home

Just hanging out in the car

Now, I’m watching the Bachelorette — come on Doug, Ryan, Nathan, and Kalon — then doing a little work in preparation for tomorrow.

This was such a great, relaxing, and fun weekend, it’s so sad that it’s over.

Luckily, it’s a short week then back to Indiana for Susan’s big day!  Hopefully this week flies by :)

Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend (and remembered the reason for the weekend!), and here’s to a four-day week!

Good night :)

Lazy Saturday with Milo

Hello and happy Saturday!

I’m going to make this short because I have to get ready for my friend Frank’s wedding this evening.  But, first I wanted to do a little recap of my day because it includes–who else–Milo Bear!

Because James and I both came to Indiana this weekend, we brought Milo with us.  He is always on the go when he is here.  When he is at home, he sleeps about 85% of the day; however, here, in a new environment, he walks around exploring all day.

However, he did sit quietly at a few times today.

I got in my six miles today like I wanted to, and while James and I were out running through the neighborhood, Milo sat at my parents’ bay window and watched us run by.

My dad took this adorable picture of Milo watching us (you can see us out the window):

Watching mom and dad

After the run, we went outside for a bit.  Susan and I laid out in the backyard (unfortunately, it wasn’t too sunny today, but there were bursts of sunshine), then my mom let Milo out.  He had such a blast sprinting around the yard, playing catch, and watching James and I play catch.

After he and James went back in the house, I stayed outside to get more sun and my sister snapped this picture of Milo watching me lay out.

Come inside and play, Mom!

He was also whining from time to time for me to come in.  Such a momma’s boy :)

Well, that was my lazy, fun Saturday.  Now I have to get ready for the wedding, which I will recap tomorrow!

Have a wonderful evening!

Successful Shopping Trip

The Bachelorette draft is complete!

We planned on drafting Monday before the show, but some emails got started and we ended up drafting everyone yesterday.  So, my championship team is — Doug, Ryan, Nathan, and Kalon.

I know, Kalon is a terrible person, but I had the first pick of the draft and the last, so I got stuck with him.  Hopefully he gets me some points for being an a-hole.  Based on retroactive points, I’m currently up by 10 points — good thing Ryan wrote that 35 page letter huh?  :)

****

Yesterday was pretty uneventful, except that I went dress shopping for the wedding we’re going to this weekend and my sister’s rehearsal dinner next week.

I started at H&M, but there should have been a sign on the door that if you are a certain height you shouldn’t go in.  Everything I tried on was ridiculously short.  I didn’t think being 5’10″ was so out of the ordinary, but nothing fitting appropriately, so I was out of there.

I found a dress at Ann Taylor LOFT (only the one I tried on was blue) that was ok, but I decided not to buy it unless I loved it, so I continued looking.  I ended up getting this dress from Francesca’s for the rehearsal dinner:

(it looks much better on)

I also tried to avoid White House Black Market because ALL of my dress are from there, but it’s because they are so great!  I ended up with this dress from there for this weekend’s wedding:

My mom actually got me a gift certificate to there, but I didn’t use it.  She got it for me because I had mentioned I wanted to buy work clothes from there, so I purposely saved it for when I shop for work clothes.

It was a pretty successful shopping trip!

****

Today, we have a long day ahead of us.  No working out for me, I decided to take a break after working out each day this week (I ran 3.12 miles yesterday and did some bicep and tricep work).  Instead, we have to put in a full day of work, take Milo for a walk to tire him out, then it’s back home to Indiana (for the second weekend in a row).

I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and a great weekend!

Rescued is My Favorite Breed

It’s been far too long since Milo has been the topic of a post.  Ok, maybe not that long, but any day that goes by without a Milo post is one day too many.

You know you missed me!

James and I got Milo from a local rescue shelter called JR’s Pups-n-Stuff.  We started looking at the site in April of 2011, even though we knew we couldn’t get a dog right away.  When we first started looking, we saw an adorable dog named Roxy, and we loved her.  If we could have gotten a dog that day, Roxy would have been it.

What?? You wanted a different pup?? Mom!

Because Roxy seemed like such a great dog, and because they had a lot of dogs to choose from, we decided we would eventually adopt from JR’s and continued to monitor the available dogs.

After filling out an application in early June and passing the home visit at the end of June, we were ready to pick out our dog.  Crazy enough, in the beginning of July when we started looking again, Roxy was still there!  She immediately went on our list.

Along with Roxy, we picked out a couple other dogs we were interested in.  We went back to the website two or three times to finalize our list before I started emailing the foster parents to get a feel for the dogs personalities.  It was on the third visit back to the site that James pointed out a dog who had been there all along — Bolow.

One of his original pictures from the website

Yes, my baby’s name was originally Bolow.  Not my cup of tea, but that’s ok.

James pointed out how much his pictures on the website made him look like a little bear, so at the last minute, we added him to our list.

From the website

Our future boy

When I emailed our list to one of the fosters and told her what we were looking for (a dog that cuddled with me all day long, could handle being home alone while we were at work, and a dog that would play catch with James), she responded that either Roxy or Milo would be the best fit.

My first reaction was, who is Milo?  She told me that her family didn’t like the name Bolow, so they changed it to Milo because they thought it fit him better.  They were so right!

Little Milo

When James and I showed up at the foster’s house to meet Milo (Roxy was coming over later so we could meet her too), Milo was right there at the door to greet us.  He was so dang adorable.  He covered me in kisses the entire time we were in the living room asking questions about him.  He was also so laid back.  There were other dogs in the house and little kids, and he wasn’t bothered at all.

Then we moved outside to see him in action in the yard and to see Roxy who just arrived at the home.  We went to the foster’s house that day with every intention of getting Roxy.  Milo was, honestly, an afterthought.  Roxy was just as adorable as we thought and a sweet little girl, but Milo had already stolen our hearts.

As we got ready to leave (JR’s was kind enough to let us meet the dogs, have a few days to make our decision, and then would hold that dog for a week until we got back from vacation), Milo was across the yard playing.  James yelled, “Bye Milo,” and Milo looked up, sprinted over to us, and again covered us in kisses.  Our hearts melted.

I've always loved my dad

When we got into the car, I immediately said, I know who I want.  James said he knew too.  At the count of three, we both said Milo!  I almost cried with joy!

A week and a few days later, on August 3, 2011, we went back to the foster’s house to get our baby.  We took the leash and walked him to my car, and he immediately jumped in–no hesitation, no questions asked.

Car ride to his new home after being adopted!

I found this picture on Pinterest, and James and I always joke that this is exactly what Milo was like in the car:

As we drove home (he was about 40 minutes away from Milwaukee), Milo decided he wanted to sit in my lap.  So my 65 pound baby crawled into the front seat and sat in my lap for the remainder of the car ride.

As soon as we brought him in our apartment, he made himself right at home.  He had been shuffled around from foster to foster because of how easy-going he was, but somehow, he knew our apartment was his home.

First pictures of him in the apartment

He immediately found his spot

And trusted us enough to fall asleep

Months later, I can’t imagine my life without him.  He is our child and we treat him like one :)  He has honestly changed our lives.

For Christmas, my mom gave me a personalized ornament that says “Rescued is my favorite breed.”  I burst into tears when I opened that ornament because it is so true.  Rescuing Milo was the absolute best decision we’ve ever made.

I'm pretty great!

Thanks for letting me share our story about how we rescued the most amazing little guy.  I encourage everyone to rescue a dog — they seriously change your life :)

Happy Thursday from Milo!

Have a great day!!

Debating Whether to Work Out and a New Circuit

So I promised you a new circuit and I will get to that in a minute.  But first, the Bachelorette draft didn’t work out.  We are waiting on a fourth person, so we will draft next week — which is perfect because there are 16 guys left, so we each get 4.

Second of all – if you haven’t seen the DWTS results show, don’t read this…

…..DONALD!  I love Katherine, so I would have been fine with her winning, but Donald Driver!  Love it!  Such a great result!  Congrats!!

****

Ok, now that I’m done being a super fan, here’s the circuit I promised.  It’s a combo of cardio and combined strength moves, so hopefully you enjoy the variety.

For this circuit you will need the following things:

Free weights, water, and a towel (because you will be a sweaty mess)

Do the first exercise for 30 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, then repeat the move for 30 more seconds.  Then move on to the next exercise and repeat.  Take a 20 second break between each exercise:

Jumping jacks

Squat and press (hands facing inward)

Skaters

Static Lunges w/ bicep curls (alternate legs after 10 second rest)

Jump rope

Calf raises with tricep extensions

High knees

Front leg extensions with overhead press (alternate legs after 10 second rest)

Ski jumps

Side leg extensions with front arm raises (alternate legs after 10 second rest)

Butt Kicks

*Repeat 2 more times*

I did this only twice through and it took me about 32 minutes.  I would recommend doing it three times through, if you have time.  Unfortunately, I debated getting out of bed for 10 minutes or so, so it cut into my workout time.

I also tried to post this in pinnable form, or at least a fun chart, and thanks so much to the wonderful Lindsay for telling me how to do it!  Unfortunately, I haven’t quite mastered it :(  But I will have a better format for workouts soon!

Time for breakfast and off to work.  Have a wonderful Wednesday!

So much for a Circuit

Disclaimer:  I have no new pictures for this post…bear with me ;)

Yesterday, I decided I would wake up this morning and make up a new circuit to post.  But then I remembered (for the first time in weeks) that we are signed up to run the Great Milwaukee Race in a little less than 4 weeks.

The Great Milwaukee Race is like the Amazing Race — we get clues and run all over the city, doing physical and mental challenges along the way.  Although each period of running is around a mile or two, the entire distance is around 8 miles.

Because of this, I realized I have to keep running a little bit so I won’t be the weakest link on our team (James and I are on a team with one of James’s co-workers and his wife).  I’ve decided my game plan is to run 4 miles every Tuesday for the next 3 weeks, and on the weekends I will run 6 miles the first week, 7 the second, and 8 the weekend before the race.

So this morning, I hopped on my treadmill and ran 4 miles, followed by 10 minutes on the elliptical to round out my cardio.

My treadmill

But tomorrow morning, I plan on making up a new circuit, so check back for that.

I am so excited for tonight.  I have my Bachelorette Fantasy League draft, as well as watching last night’s episode.

The Bachelorette

Then it will be time to watch the DWTS results show to see if Donald can pull it off (if not, I hope it’s Katherine.  I’m so over William Levy).   Did you see Donald last night?  He was amazing!

Donald goes country!

Well, off to work!  Have a great Tuesday!

A Trip to Miller Park

Tonight, I’m posting a little later than usual because I just got back from Miller Park and the Brewers game!

Outside Miller Park

I am a big Brewers fan (they are my second favorite MLB team after my beloved White Sox), so I’m always excited to go to a game.

I must admit, I was not as excited as usual tonight because I’m still tired from this past weekend, but free tickets, food, and drink?  I’m in!  The event was hosted by a vendor we use at our firm, so a few of the other attorneys and paralegals went as well.

We had tickets in the “Dew Deck,” which is in the third level in the outfield.  Miller Park is such a beautiful stadium (one of the best in the League), so I made sure to take a few pictures to show you.

View from the outfield with the roof open

Brewers dugout

Along with the tickets, the Dew Deck had a buffet and free drinks (either two beers or unlimited pop).

I wish I got a picture of my food, but I was too hungry to think about it — but I had a brat in a pretzel roll and sides of coleslaw and mac & cheese.  I also stuck with Diet Pepsi because I had a bit of a headache and didn’t want to make it worse.

While we were there, I had the perfect view of my future husband — nope, not James.  I love Buster Posey the Giants’ catcher, and he was warming up in the outfield right below us.  So I snapped a couple stalker pics from above.

Buster Posey

Love him!

Unfortunately, Posey hit a 3-run homer in the first inning to immediately put the Giants ahead 3-0.

I stayed until the top of the sixth inning, but then I was ready to come home, so I called it a night on the Brewers (who were still losing when I left, but they just tied it up!).

Once I got home, I had another little treat while enjoying the DWTS replay.

Yum!

No Bachelorette for me tonight because I’m watching it tomorrow with some friends.  No spoilers because we are also drafting for our Bachelorette Fantasy League!

I’m up bright and early tomorrow to workout, so hopefully I’ll get a chance to post a workout before work tomorrow.

Have a great night!

Successful Bachelorette Party

I’m back in Milwaukee after a successful bachelorette party!

Last night was so fun with my sister and her friends!

Most of the group (I missed the memo about opening my eyes)

Almost everyone met at my parents house and then we headed out to dinner.

We went to Hacienda, which is one of the most popular restaurants in the area.  I hadn’t been to Hacienda in a few years, so I was really excited to get some great food and a margarita!

Bride to be!

Margaritas!

The whole crew

After Hacienda, we headed to my absolute favorite bar — Corby’s!  You might remember this bar from Rudy.  The summer after I turned 21, as well as the following summer before I moved to Milwaukee, my friends and I used to go to Corby’s everyday.  However, this was my first time back since November of 2008.  So I was very excited to be there.

We spent a majority of the night on Corby’s back patio, just talking and laughing.  Susan has great friends, so it was really fun hanging out with them.

We ended the night at another bar called Club Landing.  The Landing has a dance floor, so Susan was able to cut a rug before calling it a night.

At Club Landing

It was a low key night, but so much fun!  It was a good chance for Susan to just hang out with her friends and enjoy their company before she gets married!

It was good to be home and see the fam, and I get to see them again next weekend for my friend Frank’s wedding.  But now I’m enjoying some snuggle time with Milo before bed.

Have a great night!
