Weekend Recap in Pictures

Hi everyone!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!!  It was BEAUTIFUL here, which was perfect for the yard work that went on.

James’s dad and grandpa came into town to help James with some work around the house, and they did a great job!  They got so much done, and I know James loved having the help and the company.  So without further ado, here are some pics from the weekend’s projects:

new mini patio and new sod

New side door

beautiful new flower bed

Our awesome wedding present from his dad

I also stopped by an estate sale and ended up with these:

Punch bowl with cups and ladlecups for the punch bowl

Crystal bowl for the family room

The beautiful weather also allowed me to get in some miles — 10 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday:

most I've ran in awhile

And finally, no beautiful weekend is complete without some Milo time:

playing outside

Water break

Laying in the shade

pooped

Look at that tongue! So worn out

Napping after a long weekend

It was a great weekend, as it always is when family is around!  James’s two sisters staying overnight Saturday as well, and we enjoyed a grilling feast.  It was definitely a wonderful time!

Now back to the real world, but at least we have Memorial Day coming up!  Have a wonderful Monday!

Thursday Tangents

Hi everyone!

It’s that time again — I have random things on my mind, so here we go with Thursday Tangents:

1.  Look at my sleepy boy!

I need to start a post with him because he’s the best.

2.  The weather has been beautiful lately!  Not only did I walk with a co-worker to get some fro yo at lunch yesterday, but James and I have been sleeping with the window open at night, and I love it!  I love the breeze and walking up to the chirping birds.  Love!

3.  I finished this book last night:

Alysha, Brittney, and I are meeting for dinner to discuss it next week, but I’ll probably post a review beforehand.  Spoiler — I enjoyed it!

I’m starting this book now:

4. I’ve been indulging a bit lately after work.  First with a glass of this:

and a bowl of this:

Looks kind of gross, but it’s my microwave brownie!  Except I microwaved it for only 30 seconds because  I preferred brownie batter last night :)

5. We’ve been getting lots of these back:

Getting rsvps back for the wedding is pretty awesome, plus we get mail everyday!

6.  James did BodyPump last week!  It was tough, but he’s coming back!  So excited to workout together in the mornings again!

7.  I scheduled the pool opening!  Can. Not. Wait.

That’s it, have a wonderful Thursday!!

Weekend Recap: Wedding Shower with My In-Laws

Hi everyone!

Another MIA weekend because I spent another great one with family and friends!  So, here’s a quick recap of the weekend:

Friday

After heading to Bed, Bath & Beyond to tweet our registry and picking up some Panera, James and I lounged on the couch with Milo and watched the NFL Draft.  I didn’t think the draft was all too exciting this year, but still great to hang out with my boys.  I also read a little of this book, which Alysha, Brittney, and I are reading for our new book club meeting:

I’m not too far into it, but I love it so far!

Saturday

Saturday morning, after a quick 7-mile run around the neighborhood (it was BEAUTIFUL out!), we were off to James’s hometown to see his family.  His mom and sister threw me a Pampered Chef bridal shower and James hung out with his grandpa and uncles while the ladies were with me.

It was such a blast, great food, and wonderful times with my future in-laws.  I absolutely love them and loved spending time with James’s mom, stepmom, sisters, grandmas, aunts, and cousin.

Sunday

This morning, we hung out with James’s mom, stepdad, and niece for a bit, before heading to breakfast with his grandma.  We then stopped by Macy’s, and because of some sales and gift certificates we had, we got these outdoor stemless wine glasses for $1.46 — a DOLLAR and forty-six CENTS!

They were on our registry, but about to be discontinued, so we said what the heck.  Such a deal!

After hanging out with James’s grandma, sister, and her boyfriend, we headed back to Milwaukee to pick up out boy and relax with him.  I immediately headed outside with him because it was so beautiful out, and I wanted him to enjoy the outside.

He’s a little pooped now :)

After some household chores, James and I are now finally just hanging out and getting ready for our work week, then the wedding of one of my best friends, Emily!

It’s going to be a great week!!  Have a good one!

Happy Birthday Milo!!

Guess who turned 3 today??

THIS GUY!

Happy Birthday!!

I love him so much and am so blessed to have him in my life.  He makes everyday better, so I definitely wanted to spoil him.

Happy BIrthday cookie

"pup" cake

Puppy brownie

New bone

PB Treats

Waiting for his brownie

Lovin his treat

Happy birthday to the absolute best pup in the world.  Love you, Milo Bear!

Dogs are the Best

Happy Friday!!!

I am super pumped for the weekend because I get to see all my besties as I head to Indianapolis for a bridal shower/bachelorette for one of my best friends.  Can’t wait to post the recap :)

And if that wasn’t enough of a reason to be excited, Molly — who I am staying with — is puppy sitting!!!  I might die of cuteness overload, especially since I’m already in love with her pup, Stuart!

Her adorable dog Stu and Milo

In honor of the puppy, Stuart, and my little guy, I will make this a short, simple Friday post dedicated to dogs!  Because what better way to start the weekend??

Have a wonderful one!!

Why dogs are perfect:

Adopt….

Because then this will happen…

(That is my favorite thing ever).

And this fun little link to dogs being adorable with their owners.

Happy weekend from Milo!

Why I Dislike The Gym

Ok, that’s not true, not true at all.  I love my gym!  I love that I get to go to spin and BodyPump and run comfortably when the weather is terrible outside.

But today I realized the reasons I don’t like going to the gym.  I decided to sleep in this morning, but still wanted to get a run in, so I ran in my neighborhood when I got up (yes, despite 30 degree temps and pouring rain — but totally worth it).  Then, throughout the rest of my morning, all the reasons I don’t like the gym crept up….

1.  Running on a treadmill gets real old.  I’m not someone who hates the treadmill, and I do find it theraputic at times to be able to zone out while I run and not worry about getting hit by a car.  But even though it’s always perfect conditions in the gym, and today was less that great outside, I would still rather be running outside.

Not my view this morning, but a great example of why running outside is awesome

2.  I miss getting ready at home.  My gym is downtown, and I work downtown, so once I head out of my house in the morning, I’m not back until after work.  That’s a long time to be away from home, plus it’s so much more convenient to get ready at a leisurely pace at home and not worry about sharing mirrors/outlets, etc.

3.  I miss Milo!  Although he typically sees me off when I leave for the gym in the mornings, when I don’t go to the gym we get extra snuggle time before getting out of bed, he lays on me while I eat breakfast/watch Sportscenter, and he brings his toys in the bathroom to play while I get ready.  I love being around him, so obviously leaving him even an hour or two before I normally would it not fun — yes, I am obsessed :)

My little snuggler

4.  I miss my breakfasts!  After working out and getting ready, I head to my office, eat oatmeal out of a cup while I check emails/catch up, etc.  Because I’m at the office, all I have to make the oatmeal is water.  Which is fine.  But this morning, for the first time in a long time, I was able to make my oatmeal with almond milk, and add a scoop of peanut butter and honey.  So creamy and so delicious!  Those oatmeal packets get the job done, but I prefer the good stuff.

PB Oatmeal

****

Okay, rant over because here are the things I do love:

1.  No traffic at 5:30 a.m.

2. Staying warm during my run on days like today

3. Seeing familiar, pleasant faces from the core group of us who workout between 5:30-7 a.m.

4.  Getting to vary my workouts because of the options

5.  Having the ability to have a gym membership that I can take advantage of every day

****

That’s it for today!  Have a wonderful Thursday!

Sunny Weekend Recap

Hi everyone!

So was anyone having major wordpress issues last night?  I tried to post this then, but it wasn’t working for me.  Anyway…

Sorry I was gone forever!

I had every intention of posting a book review Thursday of The End of Your Life Book, but I didn’t…I think I fell asleep?  So that will be coming tomorrow.  In the meantime, now I’m back for my weekly weekend recap.

On Friday night, James and I caught up on our tv shows as always (are you watching Hannibal?  You should).  We switched it up this time around with a Papa Murphy’s pizza.

So good!

We got the gourmet veggie, and it was delicious!  I think we have found a new Friday tradition.

Saturday, we headed to Indiana to go to my grandma’s house to get some furniture.  Our house is still not entirely furnished, so it was nice to get a few things to make it more of a home.

We came back with a dining room table and chairs, a server for the dining room, two twin beds for one of the guest rooms, a dresser, and a night stand.

New dining room set

New server

New guest room furniture

New dresser

Milo claiming the bed for himself

Now 3 of the four guest rooms are furnished!  James thinks the guest room is a little girly, but Milo seems to enjoy it so that’s all that matters :)  Also, the night stand and dresser were my mom’s, which I think is really cool!

The last thing I got was this amazing picture to hang in my office at work — I’m obsessed with it!

LOVE

Sunday was spent cleaning the house and enjoying the sunshine.  I got in a 10k run (distance, not an actual race), then headed into the back yard to play ball with this guy.

Ready to play!

Get ready for some major Milo time…

With his ball

Chasing a ball (don't worry, he's not dumb for running passed that other ball, I threw one that he is actually chasing)

Ready for more

C'mon, Mom!

Now he's pooped

Resting in the shade

And cooling off inside

After a wonderful dinner of salmon patties (recipe from the blogger meet-up) and brussel sprouts, it was time to relax then head to bed.

Hope you had an amazing weekend, and I’ll be back tomorrow with a book review!

Midweek Musings

Hi everyone!  Happy end of the middle of the week!  Two more days, then the weekend!  Ours is a bit busy, but hey, a weekend is a weekend :)

So, I’m not posting about last night’s blogger meet-up because I’m waiting on some recipes and photos, but trust me, it’s a treat!  It was a great time, great company, and great food!  Get ready for that (hopefully tomorrow)!

Instead, tonight, you get some musings, so let’s get to it!

1. So I do have a couple pics of the food table (mostly desserts, the other meals were in the other room), so I’ll show those for now.

2.  I got very little sleep last night because I got home from the event around 10p.m. (and my bedtime is 9 p.m.), so after chatting with James and getting stuff ready for work this morning, I got to bed pretty late.  However, I forced myself to go to BodyPump this morning and also got in 4 miles, so I’m pretty happy with that.  Exhausted now though, so I doubt I can stay up for The Real World.

3.  Also helping me get through after no sleep?  This amazing power scone from Michelle at Lace & Race.  She made them for us as favors, and it was the perfect start to my morning!

4.  Couple things I’ve loving?  This morning chai latte treat *saves me money by not having to buy coffee):

And this Chobani bite.

Honestly, the flavor freaked me out, but I am a sucker for caramel, so I bought it.  And love it!

5. I used my ginger/orange/soy salmon recipe to make chicken the other day.  Poked the chicken with a fork, marindaed with orange juice and soy sauce, sprinkled with ginger and baked at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.  It was delish!

6. I am obsessed with this little boy!  He is my favorite!

That’s all I got tonight.  Enjoy your Thursday!

Easter Weekend Recap

Happy Easter everyone!  I hope you had fun with family, with basketball, and remembering the reason for the season (I know that’s for Christmas, but it applies here, too!).

Our Easter weekend was extremely low key (no traveling), but still a good weekend with my boys.

For Milo Bear, most of his weekend was spent outside enjoying the first nice weekend!

Loving the warmer weather

Enjoying the sunshine

For James and I, we spent it relaxing before an incredibly busy month of April (work and personal) hits.  We watched Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, and In Cold Blood.

Argo

Zero Dark Thirty

In Cold Blood

Reviews of all coming soon.

We also broke up the movies with a homemade pizza, some gym time (now that he’s a member!!), and little fro yo.

This was amazing (recipe soon)

I can never have enough frozen yogurt

Perfect part of the weekend, in my opinion :)

This morning, our Easter celebration was low key, but we still had  one.

I suprised James with these Easter baskets:

I couldn't find a big basket, so two smalls

And Milo wasn’t left out either:

New bone and toy duck

I then made us this delicious frittata for breackfast.

Such a highlight of the weekend

So so good and healthy!  Recipe coming soon for this as well!

All in all, it’s been a wonderful weekend.  We have The Walking Dead season finale tonight, then back to work tomorrow, so that’s it for now!

Have a great rest of your weekend!!

Thursday Tangents

Hi everyone!

One more day for some of us and the weekend is already here for others.  Either way, good times ahead :)

Tonight,  I want to do my  weekly tangents post — best way to hit on a lot of random things floating in my head!

1.  Thanks for all your song suggestions!  I need new music always when I run or I get bored, so I’m excited for these new options.

2.  So my 5 mile run turned into a 6.5 miler.  I felt great so I just kept going and ran until the treadmill turned off after one hour.  I hate when it does that, but an hour was plenty today.  Also, might have listened to the Fall Out Boy song six times during my run — yes, 6.

3.  The new Real World started last night.  To be honest, I sort of hate the Real World these days (although I did want to be on it soo bad when I was younger), but I have to watch to get to know the people who will be on the Challenges — you know, the fifth major sport.  My early predictions?  Marlon and Jessica are my two faves.

4.  James and I bought these chips on a whim and I am obsessed!  They are going way too fast!

5.  I don’t have an engagement ring :(  Hence why I wasn’t wearing a ring in this picture:

There wasn’t a wedding band designed with my engagement ring, so one has to be custom made.  So the jeweler took my ring Monday to make a mold, and with Easter coming up and the store being closed, I probably won’t get it back til Wednesday or later.  I miss it!

6.  I stayed up late (oooh 10p.m., so crazy!) to watch the Real World last night, so I was struggling today, but look who else is tired from staying up with me:

He tried to sleep, but I kept waking him up by squeezing him and giving him kisses.  I’m sure he’s over me at this point.  I also have so many pictures of him like this (see yesterday’s post) — he probably hates that I portray him as so lazy, but, well, he is :)

7.  Speaking of dogs and Easter, is this not the cutest picture you have ever seen?

Go to Buzzfeed to look at the full post and a bunch of other pictures of this dog, but c’mon.  I die.

8.  Finished Anatomy of a Murder last night, so review coming soon.  James and I are hoping to watch either In Cold Blood or Witness for the Prosecution this weekend, so I’ll do a combined legal drama post — I know, I know, what could BE anymore exciting :)

On that note, time to watch some basketball!  (IU for me and Marquette for James).

Night!
