Happy first day of Summer!! (I have a summer gripe, which I’ll get to in a minute). I’m definitely enjoying this to celebrate the first day of summer:
AND, the work week is almost over! Even more so for me because I leave for Dallas on Friday for a wedding!
I’m so excited to see some law school friends, explore Dallas, have some Texas BBQ, and most importantly, celebrate one of my favorite couples!
Workout recap time!
This morning, I found workout inspiration from Alyssa in the form of this workout. Full disclosure, I used 8-pound weights because they were the heaviest I had, but it was still a great workout. It was definitely challenging and I loved that it was a pure strength circuit.
Because I had some extra time (I woke up before my alarm so my workout started early), so also did a few cardio exercises (butt kicks, high knees, punches, jumping jacks, etc) for a bit until my knees started hurting, 7ish minutes of abs, and 10ish minutes of additional strength exercises. It was a random, varied workout, but it all worked.
Tomorrow I’m back to running, I think. I want to do this treadmill workout from Lindsay, so I’ll keep you posted.

So, my summer gripe. Seriously, this is the only thing I don’t like about like about summer. Otherwise, summer is the greatest thing ever.
This is going to make me seem like a lazy couch potato (who leads a charmed life if this is my complaint), but I’m willing to risk it — I had the television schedule in the summer.
I know, I know, what a lame gripe. But seriously, one of my favorite things is coming home from work, having dinner with James, and catching up on our shows on the DVR. However, in the summer, our DVR is pretty much empty.
We have only 4 summer shows! Actually, we have two shows and I have two that James tolerates when I turn them on.
My shows are the Bachelorette and the Real Housewives of New Jersey <– trashy television at its best.

Our shows are Suits on USA and The Glades on A&E.

But that’s it! Seriously, what is there to do all evening if there are no shows to watch? Are there any summer shows I’m missing out on?
Side note #1: We do LOVE Burn Notice, but unfortunately, we got behind a few seasons ago, so we can’t watch this season until we catch up.
Side note #2: We watch Dexter, but we don’t get Showtime, so we have to wait for the DVD. So once that comes out in August, Dexter will be added to our summer show list.
If you have any recommendations, I’m open to suggestions. (Staci, I’m looking at you — I have convinced James that we need to catch up on Breaking Bad though!).
But I guess if my biggest complaint is the lack of television to make me lazy, things are going pretty well, right?
Well, off to read a little (a fortunate consequence of no tv). Have a wonderful evening!

I am the same way, obsessed with dexter but no showtime.
Such a great great show! DVDs come out in Aug!
I have recently becoming obsessed with “The Conversation” on Lifetime. You’ve gotta check it out – they have all the episodes online too!
I’ve never heard of this! I’m looking into it!
lol this is funny b/c I actually get relieved in the summer b/c I feel like I get a break from TV. I’m like oh whew all my shows are over so I can get some other stuff done. What that stuff is, I don’t know but I like to think I’m being productive. HA!
Haha I know what you mean, it’s nice to get a little break
As you know, Jack owns the TV so unless it is Disney Jr., Nick Jr., Sprout or PBS Kids, we really watch nothing — BUT — “The Newsroom” is starting Sunday night on HBO. All of my journalist friends are excited about it & it’s Aaron Sorkin, can’t go wrong with that.
We’ll be TiVo-ing it and hoping to watch it sometime when Jack leaves for college!!
Did you get a chance to watch this yet? How was it?
I garee about TV haha. i guess they know ratings will be lower in the summer because most people are out and about so maybe that is why they dont have as good of shows?
Haha yeah I bet that’s it — I guess me watching isn’t enough
Maybe some day!
Haha I feel you on the TV shows! I was thinking about that the other day and I’m going to try to read more, which is something I always say I want to do but never do. I’ll probably end up looking for a new TV show that has already aired too…not gonna lie! I’ve never watched some of your favorites so I’ll be looking into those
You should definitely look into them! I think you can catch up on the Glades online or on demand! Same with Suits
I know what you mean! The Officer and I don’t have too many shows that we love watching together but here are a few (not necessarily on now, but you can watch them on demand or on netflix)
-Sons of Anarchy (LOVE)
-Pawn Stars
-Criminal Minds
-Rizzoli and Isles (new during the summer – you don’t have to watch past seasons)
-Game of Thrones
James likes Sons of Anarchy (the few eps he’s seen), so I can see us getting into that. And I love criminal minds!
Well, I could recommend about a zillion shows that you could watch on DVD, but I’ll stick to shows that are currently or will shortly be airing on TV. You already know that I love the Bachelorette as well, and plan to watch Bachelor Pad when that starts (it’s so bad it’s good). And I love Suits too!! Here are some other network/basic cable shows that I watch during the summer months:
-So You Think You Can Dance (Fox)
-Workaholics (Comedy Central)
-Wilfred & Louie (both on FX)
-Breaking Bad (AMC–seriously, get on this! one of the best shows ever!)
I think you’ll be pretty busy once those BB reruns start rolling, but you could also occupy your time with the DVDs (ok, I lied; I am going to recommend DVDs) of The Wire, Mad Men, Sherlock, Downton Abbey, Battlestar Gallactica, Game of Thrones, Community, Parks & Rec & Happy Endings. Plus there are always reruns of 30 Rock on.
Good choices all around!
Once again, you come through, my friend!
I started watching Community! It’s seriously genius – and hilarious! I love it.
I love Community!! Great show!
I hope you like the workout!! I hate that tv shows aren’t really on in the summer either, but I do love So You Think You Can Dance!
I do want to start watching that, so I might randomly pick it up!
I’m a little late to posting on this but I wanted to recommend USA’s Necessary Roughness. It’s on Wednesday nights during the summer. Last summer was its first season. Another USA show I’ll watch if I’m around but don’t mind if I miss (I don’t record it) is Royal Pains. Royal Pains also is on for a short time during the winter I believe.
